The US Military retirement system is generous, but you have to be informed of options and plan for your future. That's what I'm doing, and I write about it as I go.

Taxslayer.com Offering Free Tax Filing to Military members
Again this year, Taxslayer is offering free tax filing service to active duty military members. I've used this service for five years and have been very happy with the results. Give them a try and pass the word to others.
Thanks Jackie, no I was unaware of the complaints. One thing I think I should say, now that you've mentioned it, is that if you use Taxslayer to prepare a State return you do have to be careful to review the documents. As a California resident, I do not pay state income tax for military pay earned while serving out of state, but Taxslayer didn't seem to be able to work that out for us in 2009. Since then I have been doing the state tax by hand and using the Federal tax through Tax Slayer.

Are you aware of all of the consumer complaints about taxslayer. Go to http://www.consumeraffairs.com/finance/taxslayer.html to see 5 pages of them.
